ELIZABETH EGAN
How We Met. . .
We actually talked on the phone back in 1989 years before we first met in
1999 we had met via "Other Voices" the US Cure fanzine.~
Never under estimate the simple kindnesses..... Back in Spring of 1992 Elizabeth's band Lefaye OPENED for the CURE!!!
In 1989 Liz was dragged kicking and screaming to a Cure concert, and she was just blown away. Up until that point her choice of career was musical theater and was already finding success in NY city. In the summer of 1990 Liz followed the summer "Pleasure Trips" The Cure Tour. (Strangely enough Robert accidentally heard her singing from a balcony in the hotel!).
In 1991 the day of the secret gig show (TNC2) Liz was visiting her friend in Brighton, England, when they got a phone call concerning the show - they had four hours to make it and NO tickets! Hanging near the backstage entrance along with others, the Cure arrived. Simon recognizing Elizabeth and her friend tried to find a way for them to get in asking a bouncer backstage. As the show started Liz and others were still outside - and VERY frustrated! At that moment the bouncer decided to let them in..... for ten quid each! The girl in front of Liz was let in - but she only had 7 quid and was promptly thrown out crying! Liz looked in her pocket and had exactly 13 quid. Enough for herself and the stranger! Liz gave the girl the rest of her money and they went in... After the show they ran into each other and on a whim exchanged addresses. Liz went back to the states, hated every second of NY University - just wanting to sing in her own band at this point. A week after quitting college she received a letter in the mail from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts inviting her to study Shakespearean theater in London!!!!! Perfect excuse to move to England and find her own band!
Once
there Liz contacted "the Stranger" for a drink at the pub. Mentioning
she was in the UK to find a band, the girl laughed and said she knew of a band
who had just kicked out their lead singer! After several auditions and
interviews Liz got the job..... Now here is the kicker.... One of the band
members was once a member of Fools Dance and a close friend of Simons!
After a lot of work the band started playing shows and the Cure started
showing up in the audience! To make a long story short, (too late!), and
several amazing coincidences later, Lefaye was invited to tour with The Cure
in April 1992!!!!

After years of music around the world (including by being mentored by Peter
Gabriel at Real World) Liz moved to California in 1999. In 2001,
Liz created a new band "Aurora" (now "Flickering Saints") and sings on
soundtracks, commercials and other various projects. .. If you are

We have become wonderful friends with Elizabeth. We have tons of fun going to tea, game nights (She is a master actress and almost always wins!), the movies, Oscar parties, tea parties & fondue parties. Liz is Ian's crazy fun Auntie Liz! :) Liz is always the life of the party. Who could not love Liz? We met Elizabeth because of The Cure - I am so thankful to them for a wonderful true lifelong friend.
